I //am// Greg Cruey - educator and writer.

I was born in Enterprise, Alabama (USA), while my father was stationed at an Army base there (Fort Rucker) and I grew up in the military. Most of my childhood was spent either in Augusta, Georgia or in Stuttgart, Germany.

My family has deep roots in the Appalachian Mountains of the eastern United States. As a child I visited that geographical area often. My mother was raised near Knoxville, Tennessee and graduated high school in the small town of Richlands, Virginia where he father supervised a coal mine. My father also graduated high school there. Today, my wife and I live about 20 minutes from Richlands and both work as a educators in the neighboring state West Virginia.

I graduated from Glenn Hills High School in August (1978) and went on to earn a B.A. in psychology from Augusta State University (1983 - we called it Augusta College then). In 1993 the Australian National University awarded me a Graduate Diploma (with merit) in general linguistics. My Master's degree is from Marshall University (Huntington, West Virginia) in adult and technical education. Currently I am enrolled at Salem University (Salem, West Virginia), studying educational leadership.

From 1984 to 1994 I worked for s volunteer service organization (a Christian "missions" agency) in Asia, Australia and in the Pacific. I've lived, traveled, and/or worked in: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Caroline Islands, Denmark, France, Guam, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Mariana Islands, the Marshall Islands, Nepal, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, and probably a few other places I'm leaving out.

I hold a number of professional teaching certifications: Reading, Special Education (for a variety of disabilities, including autism), Math (grades 5-9), Social Studies (grade 5-9), and Elementary Education (preK-6). I currently work in an elementary school, but I've taught every grade level from kindergarten to college.

I have an eclectic taste in music. My favorite artists include The Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, Kenny Chesney, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pat Green, Stevie Ray Vaugh, Van Morrison, Waylon Jennings, and Yo-Yo Ma. I enjoy reading, especially Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck and Albert Camus.

I began writing professionally at the age of 18 and I have been writing for the web for almost 15 years now.
