WMI stands for Windows Management Instrumentation. If you don't know what WMI is check out this link for more information. According to the site WMI is:
" the Microsoft implementation of Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM), which is an industry initiative to develop a standard technology for accessing management information in an enterprise environment. WMI uses the Common Information Model (CIM) industry standard to represent systems, applications, networks, devices, and other managed components. You can use WMI to automate administrative tasks in an enterprise environment."
There's a new downloadavailable on the Microsoft download site named WMIdiag described as "a new utility to help system administrators diagnose and repair problems with the WMI service." One word of caution - this utility is implemented as a VBScript script (.vbs file) and could be unusable on some systems where the system policy has been set to not allow vbs files to run.
