VMware recently released a beta version of their server product renamed to VMware Server. This is the product sold commercially as GSX Server. Looks like VMware is taking the freebie route with their VMware player and now server product. They have several other products they still charge for including ESX server, another server product that runs on bare metal hardware as opposed to on top of another OS. Microsoft released their Virtual Server R2 product recently with greatly reduced pricing from the previous version.
