Novell and Virtualization


If you've been around computing for any length of time you've probably noticed how some concepts for Distributed computinglinks seem to get recycled. It's kind of like clothing fads - if you hang onto those bell bottom jeans they'll probably be back in style in a few years. One of the concepts that has been around since the early days of IBM mainframe computers is virtualization. The concept is making a comeback in a big way with IBM and EMC (VMware) two key players in the game.

Novell hopes to capitalize on the open source Xen project and use it to virtualize their Netware operating system on top of Linux. I wrote a piece for TechTarget's Search Open Source site on Novell's Linux roadmap and where they're going with virtualization.
