Laptop With Employee Data Stolen From Home Depot

Filed in archive Security by Eileen Peck on October 19, 2007

Home Depot reported on Wednesday that a laptop containing sensitive information on 10,000 Home Depot employees was stolen. The employee information included employee names, addresses and Social Security numbers. The laptop did not contain any customer data and was password protected at the time of the theft.

The laptop, which was taken weeks ago, was left in a car belonging to a regional manager for the chain of home improvement stores while the car was parked in front of the manager's home. Home Depot is providing free credit-monitoring services to the employees whose information was compromised.
