Wi-LAN, a Canadian firm, has filed suit against 22 companies in the Eastern District of Texas, alleging that the defendants have violated Wi-Fi patents held by the company. The defendants include wi-fi heavy hitters like Acer, Apple, Belkin, Broadcom, Buffalo, D-Link, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, NetGear, Sony and Texas Instruments. The suit also names mass-market retailers Best Buy and Circuit City.

At the center of the dispute is Wi-LAN's claim that three of its patents on power consumption and transceiver technologies are being violated. Fujitsu, which opted to license the technologies from the company, is not named in the suit.
